INITIATIVE: Industry Giants unite to deliver Mobile Broadband Future

Today,
16 of the world's best known IT and mobile companies have united behind a GSMA-led
initiative to create a new category of always-connected Mobile Broadband
devices, delivering a compelling alternative to WiFi. This will give consumers
the freedom to get online on the move, while enabling operators to address a US$
50 billion opportunity in both mature and emerging markets (Pyramid Research).
In the first phase of this unprecedented initiative, mobile operators, PC
manufacturers and chipset providers are uniting to pre-install Mobile Broadband
into a range of notebook PCs that will be ready to switch on and surf straight
out of the box in 91 countries across the world.

So
you badly want a Sony Ericsson
Xperia X1 Windows Mobile smartphone but you are
not living in one of the initial launch-countries? No problem, you can win one
of seven Xperia X1 (why seven, not nine?) with Sony Ericsson's "Johnny X Spot
the References to 9" competition by watching the videos bellow and identifying
certain elements within the Johnny X video.
As a participant in the competition you have to answer Sony Ericsson's
competition question and write what you think is the correct answer.
Just as a reminder, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is Sony Ericsson's first Windows
Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone which will be released anytime next month
to consumers in the UK, Germany and Sweden.

PHOTOVIEW: Palm Treo Pro Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

Palm
just recently launched its latest Windows Mobile Professional smartphone, the
Palm Treo Pro and thanks to Palm Germany and Vodafone Germany, I got my hands on
Palm's Treo 750
follower, which went available across Europe exclusively from Vodafone.
Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU
at 400 MHz, the Treo Pro features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA,
WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and GPS capabilities. The inbuilt 256 MB ROM and 128
MB RAM can be expanded with microSDHC memory cards up to 32 GB and while the
device lacks a front facing camera for video telephony, it features a 2.0
megapixel main camera on the back.

SERVICE: Adobe opens Photoshop.com Mobile Beta for Windows Mobile

Back
in August we wrote about Adobe's plans to launch Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile with
support for Windows Mobile devices and the Beta went online recently. Adobe
Photoshop.com Mobile Beta is said to be the easiest way to upload, view and
share photos online from your smartphone. Getting started is simple. All you
need is a supported Windows Mobile handset and a Photoshop.com membership. Key
features are uploading photos from the road to your Photoshop.com account as
soon as you take them. Photoshop.com Mobile allows you to store up to 2 GB of
photos for free. At a party, in a meeting or on the road you can view your
online photos and albums from your phone, wherever you are.

The
next,
officially announced, big update for Windows Mobile will be - as Microsoft
calls it - "6 on 6", which is
Internet Explorer Mobile 6 on
Windows Mobile 6.1. The
current Internet Explorer Mobile code, as it is used for today's Windows Mobile
devices and smartphones, is based on the pretty much outdated
Internet Explorer 4.x, which was initially released back in September, 1997!
The time of Windows 95 and Windows NT 4, when the World Wide Web was pretty
young. So no question, it is time f
