RUMOR: Is HTC's first Windows Mobile 7 smartphone to be released in Q1-09?

While
real Windows Mobile 7 information are still in the dust, Kevin Chen, HTC's
General Manager for MEA and CIS is quoted that HTC plans to release its first
Windows Mobile 7 smartphone at Q1 next year.
That's at least what
PhoneReport says, which had the chance to chat with Chen during the HTC
Touch Diamond launch event in South Africa. At this event, Chen unveiled that
HTC is planning to release a device with Google's Android Operating System by Q4
of this year and also confirmed that Windows Mobile 7 is on the roadmap for a Q1
launch early next year.

REVIEW: Giga-Byte GSmart t600 Windows Mobile Professional DVB-T Smartphone

Just
in time to the EURO 2008,
Vodafone
Germany and
Giga-Byte introduced the
GSmart t600 (we've
previously photoviewed), a Windows Mobile 6 Professional 2.5G smartphone.
While the GSmart t600 design is over one year old already (the t600 was unveiled
during last year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona) it's still quite stylish,
if you like white "iPodish" mobile devices. Powered by a Marvell PXA270 CPU at
520 MHz, the GSmart t600 is a quadband GSM and GPRS device, also featuring WiFi
b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. Nevertheless, neither EDGE nor W-CDMA in terms of UMTS or
HSDPA are supported which might makes the device less attractive to
online-savvies. But that's not the focus of the t600 anyway but the main reason
for this smartphone is the fact that it supports
DVB-T broadcast which allows
users to watch digital terrestrial TV on the go.

ALPHA: Qik announces Alpha support for Windows Mobile Smartphones

While
live broadcasting videos from a Windows Mobile device isn't that new anymore (ComVu
demo'd this a couple of year ago with its Pocket Caster already), Qik took
it to the consumer Web 2.0 level. Was Qik available for Nokia S60 N-Series
devices already, Qik finally announced a - yet not public - Alpha version of its
video broadcasting client for Windows Mobile smartphones. With Qik's free live
video streaming service, users can stream live video to the Internet in just two
clicks from their mobile phone, and join others as they watch online and engage
in live interactive chat. Everyone from journalists to politicians use Qik to be
transparent in their reporting and campaigning on a global Web platform.
